  • Yarn: DK (3), about 200 g
  • Hook: 4.0 mm
  • Tapestry needle and scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Skill Level & Gauge

Skill level: Easy. Gauge: 14 stitches and 12 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in pattern. Gauge is not critical, but it will change the finished size.

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • rep – repeat

Pattern

  1. Foundation: Ch an even number of stitches to the desired width.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), hdc in each st across, turn.
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
  5. Rep Rows 2–3 until the piece reaches the desired length.

Tip: count your stitches at the end of every row for the first few rows. It saves a lot of frogging later!

Finishing

Fasten off and weave in all ends. Block lightly with steam or a damp towel to even out the stitches.
